HAVE YOU EVER LOST YOUR ENTHUSIASM? I did.

HAVE YOU EVER LOST YOUR ENTHUSIASM?? Well…I did for a very long time. The word ENTHUSIASM comes from the Greek word enthousiasmos, which consists of the root words “theos” (god) and “en”. (in). Thus enthusiasm literally means “God within.”Hmm. I think we all agree that enthusiasm is a wonderful thing. They say that you should follow your enthusiasm in life. That makes sense. Here are a few more quotes on enthusiasm: Enthusiasm creates miracles. Enthusiasm + Passion = Success. Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm. Ralph Waldo Emerson said: ‘Nothing in life was ever achieved without Enthusiasm.’ I totally believe in enthusiasm too. I used to have enthusiasm and zest for my mixed media art business but I hit a major burnout last year and decided I couldn’t do it anymore. I had my art business since 1999. I owned a gallery/studio in the Smoky Mountains…

ARE THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE REALLY FREE?

DO YOU BELIEVE THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE? or not? Sunsets, Friendship, Cuddling a cat. Great conversation. Noticing the colors of a rainbow. The sound of a babbling mountain stream. Creativity. Inspiration. Writing. Meditation. A good hot steaming cup of coffee? (Well, almost free. 34 cents per KEURIG cup!)   I was wondering about this topic today after my conversation with a spiritually attuned wise friend of mine. We had a very long chat. We chat at least once a week and I love our deep talks. She is a meditation coach among other things. She doesn’t charge me anything for her time. She sincerely likes to share her wisdom, her strength and her time. Whereas other therapists I’ve had in my life (and I’ve had a few) seemed to look at their watches when ‘time was UP!”. OK. You have to leave NOW!! With her and I she never…

YOU CANNOT BE CREATIVE WITHOUT VULNERABILITY

YOU CANNOT BE CREATIVE WITHOUT VULNERABILITY There’s no way around it! vul·ner·a·bil·i·ty noun the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. (This post is for my writer friends). A few of my friends who write mentioned that they haven’t felt ‘brave’ enough to share their work yet. They both said they preferred to keep their writing to themselves in their journals. I find this interesting but I could relate. I told them that its ‘brave to show up and be seen’ and I really mean that. Honestly, I’d prefer to opt on the side of bravery these days. When I first published my poetry book ‘Catch a Poem by the Tale’ it was scary. I felt super vulnerable to open myself up and share my ‘ugliness’ with the world, but I did it! It was DAMN VULNERABLE! One of my…

Here are a few poems from my chapter ‘Alive with Alliteration’ from my third book ‘Word Explosion’.  DRIPPING in DIVINE I am dripping in divine decadence daringly dabbling in dangerous dalliances damaging dialogues and diatribes DAMN! I thought it was dandy to have dappled in the dazzling darkness I was deadlocked dreadfully descending decaying in the depressing deficits now I do DECLARE! that I am definitely not defined by any deficiencies no longer denying demons and determined to diligently dedicate to my desired destination I have decided to diffuse my defensiveness no longer directionless No longer am I discombobulated or discouraged by my dreams DEDICATION! I am decidedly disavowing any type of disgraceful distrustful disgruntled dispirited depressed or downer people not dismayed by disquieting distressed diatribes Yes I may be dismally distant but I no longer need diversions and am not divided I am dizzy and dripping with the dynamic divine. I no longer…

WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW?

WRITE WHAT  YOU KNOW? WRITE WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW? or…? I’m sure we’ve all heard the adage ‘Write what you know’. It seems that’s the popular sentiment when it comes to writing advice. Although this is not the only advice that is given to us writers about what to write about. There is: Write what you know — then there is Write what you don’t know — then others say Don’t write what you know. Write what you love. — and others tout: Write what you know. Write what you don’t know. But most of all write what you’d rather not know’. Ok, so we have many choices as writers. I’ll start with the ever popular Write What You Know. 1. WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW. In my case the subject of ‘Creativity and Madness’ is one of my current interests. This is a topic I do know a lot about. I’ve definitely…

THREE GENERATIONS of CREATIVE REBEL SOULS

‘BUKOWSKI, BEATRICE AND ME.’ Three generations of Creative Rebel Souls. So I discovered this wonderful author and poet online the other day named Charles Bukowski. I had never heard of him and I am so glad I found him while randomly searching YouTube. I totally resonated with his spunk, sarcasm, talent, wit, rebel spirit and of course his tragedy. Here’s what some have said about him: ‘Hilarious man but very tragic and ill.’ ‘He’s kind of cheerful and miserable at the same time’. ‘He was a miserable bastard but his words were so damn profound.’ ‘ Shakespeare of the down and out!’ ‘Hands down one of my favorite writers and poets’. ‘Salty old fart, reminds me of me.’ ‘At least Bukowski lived the life he wrote about. A lot of poets are posers.’ ‘Very talented man, a very important piece of american culture.’ ‘He makes more sense as a rambling drunk…

Holding down the Jack -in –the Box

HOLDING IN OUR SECRETS is like holding down a Jack-in-the Box!     I’ve been thinking about secrets lately. It could be because I am writing my Memoir and its hard not to look at secrets. I thought of this analogy : Holding secrets IN is like a Jack -in-the-Box. If you don’t deal with them  they will eventually pop up — and hit you in the face! So, we might as well ‘JUST DO IT’. Like a band aid. Rip off that secret and expose it. YEAH! This might explain why many people decide to write Memoirs later in their life. They want to come clean about their lives and reveal their secret stuff. Are you holding down pain, anger, any secretive emotion? Are you not getting your secrets out by sharing them with someone? Anyone? I think this might be the cause of much pain and anguish in peoples lives. HOLDING SHIT IN…

AM I ‘OFFICIALLY AN OLD GEEZER?’

AM I ‘OFFICIALLY AN OLD GEEZER’? I got the Senior Discount in Vegas this weekend.UGH! So I went to visit my old friend Sandi in Las Vegas this past week. We were at a casino and they offered me the senior discount! OMG. I’m 55. Honestly, I never really think of myself as a ‘senior’  so it hit me kinda hard. Maybe it just hasn’t sunk in yet that I am …….OLD (?) and that I am now entitled to ‘perks’ like a $4 movie ticket $2 off the buffet better gambling deals a 10% off coupon for Starbucks. WOOHOO. I guess I should’ve guessed that I was getting to be an official senior when I recently found a bunch of gray hair (for the first time ever), saw that  my neck had some new odd looking wrinkles, noticed that my two front teeth were weirdly chipped, AND I have strange bluish veins…
