It takes a WARRIOR SPIRIT…

IT TAKES A WARRIOR SPIRIT  to be a writer … or to do anything you totally believe in! So, it has been a month or so since publishing my first book ‘Catch a Poem by the Tale’  and also my second book ‘Limerick Explosion  which  exploded from my brain a short time after. I want to thank all of you  who have responded so positively to my books and have written reviews too. I really do appreciate it!      It is a very very vulnerable feeling to publish a book and put your truths out there! UGH! It feels so damn scary on one hand but on the other hand so brave too. I do feel braver than I have ever felt in my 54 years of life, to be honest. So many interesting emotions have arisen for me since publishing. I thought I’d share them with you.      The whole time I’ve…

THOUGHTS ON WRITING AND PUBLISHING MY ‘POETIC MEMOIR’

WHAT I LEARNED FROM WRITING MY FIRST BOOK First of all, it is not an easy process. Writing a book. I found it is a bit like having a baby (although I’ve never had human children!) I definitely went  through the labor pains, but I am so glad, relieved and proud that this thing is DONE. I learned so much through writing this book. I thought I would share some of my insights with you. The most important lesson in this whole process was that ‘in the long run you must listen to your own heart.’ Yep. Simple …but a very important lesson here. My gut told me what to do in every aspect of this book. I’ve waited 50 years to publish a book so I knew I must do it my way. That was vital to me. I had many well meaning friends and editors helping me which I appreciated a lot.…

THURSDAY THOUGHTS-ON WRITING MY FIRST BOOK

THOUGHTS ON WRITING & PUBLISHING MY POETRY BOOK Hi everyone! I have been very busy editing and formatting my first ever book.  It is a poetry book called ‘CATCH A POEM BY THE TALE”. Thank you to my friend  Val for thinking up this brilliant title! I thought I would share a bit of my process with you and let you know how its been going. ‘I didn’t choose writing. Writing chose me’. This quote pretty much sums up how I feel about my new found obsession with writing. It started in January of this year after my cat BigBoy died. My pen just would not stop moving. I started with my Memoir. I wrote about 40,000 words towards it but then hit a bit of a block with it. It was advised to me by Memoir writing friends to put it on the back burner for awhile to let it simmer.…

THURSDAY THOUGHTS- OPTIMIST FOR A DAY?

OPTIMIST FOR A DAY? I was talking to a friend of mine Olga the other day. She is 64 years old and just had a diagnosis of very serious stage 4 cancer but she was glowing. Two of her beloved cats also  died in the course of a two week period. ‘So much shit on her plate!’ I thought and she is still SUCH an optimist! How do some people even in the face of awful experiences seem to have that optimistic (It’ll all be fine) glow about them?. I was interested in how she got to be that way so I asked her. She said ‘I just feel deep down  that everything will work out in the end and I have a lot of faith in a Higher Presence”. Another friend of mine Barb is  a complete optimist too. She says that no matter what shit life hands her, and there will be a…

THURSDAY THOUGHTS- Do we need to know WHY?

DO WE NEED TO KNOW WHY?   “Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”― Rainer Maria Rilke   Yesterday I was on the phone with a great artist friend of mine Amy. She asked me:  ‘WHY is my life so messed up?’ Her mom died  about two years ago and she has been in a weird depressed creatively stuck space since then. She hadn’t been able to create her art for a long time. I met her in…

THURSDAY THOUGHTS- Ying/Yang

YING/YANG  or ‘THE DEVIL in the ANGEL’ and “BEAUTY or THE BEAST’ ‘THE DEVIL in the ANGEL’ This morning Im feeling extreeeemely tired from my cat (Kung Fu) who decided to go ape shit wild at 12 :30 am, right when I was going into that wonderful REM sleep and also at 4 AM screaming and scraping on everything in the bedroom. He starts by scratching hard on the tv then the papers near my bed, then he just lets out this awful wail (like he’s being tortured) and runs around like a bat outta hell all over the house. He has done this since he was a baby (He’s now 3). Last night was one of his worst terrorizing nights. He started at 12:30. Did it again at 3 am…then 3:30, then 4 am. ARGHHH!!  I do have a large water spray bottle next to my bed which is at…

THURSDAY THOUGHTS- ‘Synchronicty or Coincidence?’

“SYNCHRONICITY or COiNCIDENCE?” So……Today I woke up feeling as though I was ready for a miracle. I got a phone call from an old customer named Curt. He said “I bought your art back in 2004 in Melbourne Florida. Heres the piece you made for me!”  Id love to hire you to make more for me!”.  He sent me THIS cell phone pic!. I remembered that piece and told him it was a fun one to make! He said he wanted to hire me to make FOUR more larger sized pieces of art now..SOOO now along with three other customers who recently came out of the woodwork to hire me  I now have four custom orders Im working on and am back in full swing back in my art room. I was writing in my journal a lot lately about how burnt out and tired I was of shlepping my art to art shows…
