ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT THE STATE OF THE ARTS?

ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT THE STATE OF THE ARTS in Donald Trumps administration?   Many people are these days. I know many Americans are concerned about so many other topics (with this new administration) but what about this subject of the Arts being defunded? To me, it’s a big deal. Actress Sally field was being interviewed today on TV and she said: ‘Im so glad I was brought up in a time when the Arts was a focus in schools. Honestly I don’t know what I would’ve done without it’. I wonder… what do kids do these days without art in their school? I know I was never fond of the basic subjects like math and science. ICK! I lived for choir. In a recent study of the Arts in schools, it was found that: ‘Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and 3…

I am starting a brand new super exciting one of a kind artistic shoe business and I really love it. It is a wonderful new venture where I can work from home make art make people happy and make a living SO it’s a win, win, win, win situation. I feel very confident and I love this new path. Since this is such a vulnerable brand new idea it does need my full attention so I’ve told family members to please give me space. Have you ever just wanted to be totally alone with something to focus? I love total focus. I also think total focus is vital sometimes. Sometimes you need to give yourself time…

THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS

THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS always moves me So today I just want to share how much the kindness of someone made my day. I am attempting to start a new business venture (a one of a kind Art Shoe business) with literally NO capital. $7 in our account after bills have been paid so not enough to invest eh? but I have this dream of doing my new ARTISTIC SHOES. It feels like I’ve been ‘called’ to it. I have the new website:  www.artisticshoes.com and I’ve been busy making shoes all day for over a week now. There is definitely a learning curve involved when you start doing something new. Teaching myself this new craft is fun but isn’t gonna happen overnight. It will take time to perfect and get proficient at this., but I know I can do it and I will do it. I am a determined creative person:)…

‘PEACEFUL FOR A DAY”

‘PEACEFUL FOR A DAY’ An experiment. I’ve been studying the Enneagram Personality Type system for over 20 years. I love it. I find it amazingly accurate and helpful to find out what our personality tendencies are and to then be able to work on improving ourselves. The Enneagram talks of the 9 personality ‘types’ in the world. Each type is motivated by something else. I happen to be a number Four. “The Individualist’. Type Four in Brief 4 THE INDIVIDUALIST Enneagram Type Four .The Sensitive, Introspective Type: Expressive, Dramatic, Self-Absorbed, and Temperamental Fours are self-aware, sensitive, and reserved. They are emotionally honest, creative, and personal, Key Motivations for type 4 …4s want to express themselves and their individuality, to create and surround themselves with beauty, to maintain certain moods and feelings, to withdraw to protect their self-image, to take care of emotional needs before attending to anything else, to attract a “rescuer…” One of…

THE UPSIDE OF 70

THE UPSIDE OF 70 ‘I’m an American, I have food on the table, a roof over my head and a backyard. I’m the luckiest person on earth.’  I  met this wonderful filmmaker/writer Bob Belinoff on medium.com where I write a daily story. This following story of his inspired me so much that I wrote to him asking if I could interview him for an article or upcoming book. He graciously agreed. (I am working on editing it now but in the meantime, I thought I’d share his article with you in its entirety because I loved it!) I loved his spirit and optimism about being 70!  ENJOY HIS WISDOM! The Upside of Seventy How Brains get Better with Age and my Journey into Art. Is this trip really necessary? What does act three really add to the story? What am I supposed to accomplish in what, on stage at least, is the most exciting act…

WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT THIS MOMENT?

WHATS GOOD ABOUT THIS MOMENT? Most meditation/mindfulness classes say to find what’s good ‘here’ and now Look around you. What’s good? Make a list! I’ve done my Gratitude List every day in my journal or computer for many many years — long before Oprah suggested it. (lol) I do it no matter what mood I’m in. I have made it like a daily ritual. Funny but on the shitty days it seems even more important to do it–to remind myself of the good stuff. It just works! Writing it down or typing it is a good way to have it seep into your subconscious mind. It’s a great ‘practice’ to help you calm down if you are: stressed depressed anxious worried feeling negative feeling creepy! Just stop and look around you. What is it that’s good in your immediate space? I am looking around right now and I see my 5 cats.…

F*CK OFF, I’M WRITING!!

F*CK OFF, I’M WRITING!! About a year ago I got kicked out of an online memoir writing group for saying that ‘…sometimes I use the F-word in my writing if it’s appropriate’. I was told by the moderator: ‘…Only writers who don’t have a good use of vocabulary have to resort to profanity to get their point across’… Resort to profanity? I never said I resorted to it. I said ‘I’d use it if it were appropriate.’ I was then asked to refrain from that kind of language in the group or I’d be banned from the group. HUH?? Banned? From a writing group? For using a word? Isn’t it our 1st Amendment right of free speech? According to Wikipedia “The average person swears 80 times a day” What about all the many Classic books in literature? (Some are full of profanities in almost every chapter). I also thought about the well-written…

DO YOU KNOW MANY OPTIMISTS LATELY?

DO YOU KNOW MANY OPTIMISTS LATELY? I don’t. Winston Churchill said: ‘A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty’. It seems that optimism is a trait that isn’t as pervasive today as it was back in Churchills time. I just feel this is true especially with the world situation these days. I do know a few optimists. Not that many but a few. It seems that most of the optimists I know have become a bit pessimistic lately. My dad for instance. He’s 85. He is a happy go lucky dude for the most part. He’s been one to put his head in the sand (Ostrich man?) in his life. He always seems to want to find what’s good in any situation. I sometimes envy that quality in a person because I am often the pessimistic one. Lately though with all the shitty, crappy…

‘WE ARE HIRING SMILEY FACES!’

‘WE ARE HIRING …SMILEY FACES!’ I saw this sign today in the grocery store. Ugh, They only want smiley people. My face has not been in a very smiley mood lately so I wouldn’t be a good candidate for this job. Funny but why aren’t sad faced people valued? I mean don’t sad or non-smiley people have stuff to offer the world too? I think they do! Sometimes people who smile too much make me nervous honestly. I think of used car salesmen. May weee help yuuuu? God no. I normally buy from a less smiley person honestly. Maybe there is a balance between too smiley and too depressed? I don’t think that a sign that read: ‘Depressed Gloomy-Faced People wanted!! would work too well. But what about you? Do you have days when you do decent work or even great work when you’re not in the most smiley mood? It’s an interesting…

ODE TO A GOOD FRIEND- A PHOENIX RISING

ODE TO A GOOD FRIEND ‘A PHOENIX RISING’ Today I want to tell you about a wonderful friend of mine Priscilla Draper and share her inspirational journey with you. She and I have been friends for many many years. We met in Las Vegas in 1999 when we were both selling our mixed media art at an Art Show in Summerlin. A suburb of Vegas. She had a tent near mine. She came with her mom, who was her helper at the shows and her ‘salesperson’. We instantly hit it off maybe because we are both a bit ‘wacky’ and ‘out of the box thinkers’. I love her brash, bold, sassy BIG, style–like these cereal boxes, she creates which are LIFE SIZE! Check em out!                       So, we are like sisters now and we’ve been through a lot together over the past few years.…
